SharkAction
Hi! Welcome to Shark Action
Action!
Were
looking for people who would like to get involved in this active campaign -
even if it's just with new ideas.
At the moment we are in the process of setting up this site (for the moment all
activity of this group is happening at (Facebook - SharkAction), creating leaflets and
stickers, and contacting the places which stock shark fin products. We have two
main campaign areas:
1) Restaurants and supermarkets which stock shark fin products. We are
contacting these places with information, and asking them to rethink their
policy. We're rolling out a window sticker scheme for those businesses willing
to come on board, and for those who already choose not to stock the product. We
intend to begin a street leafleting campaign which hopefully will roll out
across the country.
2) A National Holland
& Barrett Campaign.
H&B continue to stock shark cartilage, which is claimed to help deter
cancer. ( there is no evidence at all for this of in fact for any of the health
benefit claims.) H&B changed the breed of shark they used to Blue Shark,
after the last species they were using became endangered. In statements, they
vow "to continue selling blue shark cartilage, until such time that the
Blue Shark becomes endangered." This really says it all. Theres a good
article from the quackometer blog in the topics section below.
We've contacted H&B with our intentions so watch this space. If you'd like
to contact them too and register your complaint, Contact:
