Natalie Portman Vegan Shoes

Hollywood has again endorsed the vegan lifestyle as Natalie Portman launches a range of vegan shoes. As with all vegan lifestyle choices the environment will benefit by the reduction of water consuming, gas and effluent producing livestock.

Natalie Portman, academy award nominated and golden globe winning actress, fashion muse, style icon and humanitarian, was born in Jerusalem. A Harvard grad, noted for charitable pursuits, noticed the absence of fashionable animal-friendly footwear and collaborated with Té Casan for her debut collection.

Natalie Portman

Not one to merely lend her name, Portman worked closely throughout to maintain quality standards and an exceptional design aesthetic. Dazzling, playful, elegant and free of animal products, each shoe exudes the starlet’s own personal style. All of Portman’s proceeds will be donated to the Nature Conservancy, a non profit that works tirelessly to protect ecologically fragile lands and bodies of water.

Vegan Cakes in New York

It’s Friday, it’s the weekend, and for a lot of people no more work for a day or two, so let’s have a positive story rather than focusing on the torture and misery of the meat & dairy industry. For those visitors of meatismurder.info from the US (and there are a lot of you!) there is a new vegan bakery in town - NYC to be precise (and soon to move to West Hoolywood). Also, this story again highlights that vegans should no longer be viewed as a fringe group eating veggie burgers, but a vibrant ever growing community with money to spend and a market to be met.

Babycakes

In a city dominated by cupcakes overflowing with sugar, flour and butter cream, it’s easy for those with delicate tummies to feel left out. BabyCakes offers all natural, organic and delicious alternatives free from the common allergens: wheat, gluten, dairy, casein and eggs. Cake Rest assured, all sweeteners have been chosen responsibly and used sparingly. White sugar will never be found in our bakery, nor will we ever use toxic chemical sweeteners. Instead, most products are sweetened with agave nectar—a natural syrup from a cactus which is low on the glycemia index and often a safe alternative to most non-insulin dependant diabetics. Occasionally, unprocessed and unrefined sugar is used in certain goods, although sparingly.

Gig to raise money for vegan social centre

meatismurder have been advised that in Manchester, UK there is a benefit gig being held in December to raise money for a social centre that has been shutdown due to fire and flood damage. The news is relevant to meatismurder because the space has a lot of functions that benefit animals. It has a vegan cafe that feeds vegans and highlights to non-vegans how great the food can be. It acts a focus for animal rights groups and campaigns, and has even held an art and history exhibition about the ALF.

People who want to turn the world upside down to start making things better. Everyone gives their time and skills for free in order for The Basement to be a hub away from capitalism.

1. size
2. type of fruit or veggie
3. your preference of rectangular wood panel with painted background -OR- wood “cut-out” around the contour of the fruit.

Vegan Top Chef in New York

Vegan foodstall in New York City wins top chef award. This is great because it means even more people are going to go and try vegan food and see how delicious and varied it is. It isn’t always lettuce and something brown! Infact being made to think differently about your food and be made aware of new ingredients means that most people when they adopt a vegan diet have a more varied diet that in their past eating lives.

Thiru “The Dosa Man” Kumar.

Kumar, who runs NY Dosa, a vegan food cart at Washington Square Park South and Sullivan Street, won the third annual Vendy Award, which is bestowed upon the city’s top street chef vendor. Kumar, who had competed unsuccessfully in the two previous Vendy Awards, finally won for his specialty Pondicherry dosas, a type of filled crepe. He accepted the large silver Vendy cup on Saturday night.

Dosa

Kumar beat out four other finalists: Veronica Julien from Veronica’s Kitchen at Front Street and Pine Streets; Muhammed Rahman from Kwik Meal at 46th Street and Avenue of the Americas; the 10-member crew at Super Taco at 96th Street and Broadway; and Farez “Freddy” Zeideia of The King of Falafel and Shawarma at 30th Street and Broadway in Astoria, Queens.

The public whittled several hundred entrants down to the five finalists. A panel that included former Food Network host Sara Moulton then selected this year’s winner.

Another Day, Another Vegan

All it takes is some time to read and an open-mind and people realise that something needs to be done about what is happening out of sight to put bodies on a plate.

Supermodel PETRA NEMCOVA has become a vegan after reading up on the planet’s fish problems.

Petra Nemcova

The stunning Czech Republic catwalk star reveals she gave up meat and dairy in February (07) because she wants to set an example and help save ocean life. Nemcova explains, “I became quite green… I have a very strong connection to nature… and I read that if we fish the way we fish, in 2048 there will be no more fish left, which is pretty soon. So it’s a statement.”
