Escapee

An escape for one murder victim.

Motorists in far South Austin got an eyeful Wednesday afternoon of something they don’t see every day: a young Brahma bull.

The animal was spotted westbound on Slaughter Lane in a dead run toward Mopac before disappearing into nearby woods.

KXAN Austin News’ Jim Swift just happened to be at the scene and stopped to talk with the bull’s owner.

Bull owner Trish Williams said, “We were loading him. He jumped to the side of the trailer, even though we had it wired, busted the wire, then went down the pasture and came back up the other way. Got out.”
Swift asked, “Just got away from you?”
Williams said, “Just got away.”
Swift asked, “Where were you going to take it?”
Williams said, “Taking him to slaughter.”
Swift said, “And here he is on Slaughter Lane.”

Though owners were still looking, there was still no sign of the animal by late afternoon.

Meat E.Coli Recall

E.Coli meat recall in US

FLINT – A Michigan meat company is recalling tens of thousand of pounds of ground beef products over E.coli concerns.

Abbott’s Meat Inc. of Flint is voluntarily recalling more than 26,000 pounds of the products.

They are boxes of meat with the “Abbotts” name ranging from ground beef patties to “Coney Island topping mix.” Each box also has the establishment number “10215″ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The meat products were distributed to hotels, restaurants and businesses in Michigan.

A routine Department of Agriculture inspection found the items may be contaminated with E.coli.

So far there have been no reports of illness.

Farming Minister is Veggie

Old news to some but for others who don’t follow the ins and outs of Gordon Brown’s cabinet, just a quick news flash to show that the new Minister responsible for farming is a committed vegetarian of 35 years standing. How Hilary Benn (yes, Tony Benn’s son) can then bring himself to aid livestock farmers in any way is a question for his conscience.

Ministers for the countryside have been organic before - John Gummer gardened without sprays - but never vegetarian, as is Hilary Benn.

'We will judge Mr Benn on the job he does, rather than what he has said in the past' - Benn the vegetarian takes charge of environment
‘We will judge Mr Benn on the job he does, rather than what he has said in the past’

The arrival of the bean-eating Mr Benn in charge of livestock - as part of his brief as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - has caused sharp intakes of breath in the farming world.

Mr Benn, who eats neither meat nor fish, has been a vegetarian for the past 35 years, even converting his father, Tony, to the cause.

He issued as statement yesterday saying: “I am sure the farming community will judge me on what I do. I will wholeheartedly support beef, pork and chicken farmers and the meat industry and I very much look forward to meeting their representatives soon.”
