One of the most effective ways in which SAF helps to raise awareness of the many benefits for people, planet and animals of vegan living is by holding free food fairs. We held our first one in Dec ’06, then another in Dec ’09 (a report of which can be found here), and are planning to hold our next one on Sat 4th Dec ’10. These events are a great way to reach out to the wider public, to inform, educate, dispell myths and misconceptions and to show how delicious vegan food can be!
Saturday 4th December 2010 – Free vegan food fayre from 11am – 4pm at the Quaker Meeting House, 10 St. James Street, Sheffield S1 2EW
It’s mainly aimed at attracting non-vegans to come along to sample vegan food so please try to bring along a friend or two or tell non-vegans about the event if you’re attending yourselves. There will be a wide range of delicious free vegan food on offer, and there will also be a S.A.F Vegan & Animal Rights Info stall, a Sea Shepherd Stall and a Doris Banham Dog Rescue Stall. As well as cooking demos, a talk on veganism, film showings and a raffle.
Running order on the day:
11.30am – Bread Baking (by Max),
12.30pm – Vegan Curries (by Nirmal of Nirmals Restaurant),
1.30pm – Chocolate Truffles (by Jonny of the Blue Moon Cafe).
2.30pm – Why Vegan Talk (by Olly)
Throughout the day the new 30 minute Vegan Society film Making The Connection will be shown too.
To help us put on the fair we’ve recieved invaulable help from a number of companies who’ve been kind enough to provide us with some free samples. Please visit their sites to find out about them and to see the range of other vegan friendly products they sell. Sheffield’s own Lembas have been kind enough to supply us with some of their stock, if you live within an 80 mile radius of Sheffield then these are the guys to purchase vegan food in bulk from!
Other companies who’ve donated samples are Provamel (soya milk products), Beanies Health Foods (Fry’s brand faux ‘meat’ products), Bute Island Food (Sheese faux ‘cheese’), Plamil (range of vegan products), Booja Booja (vegan truffles), Meridian (range of vegan products), Sweet Freedom (honey alternatives), Pomegreat (fruit juice), Panda (liquorice sweets) and Yoah (vegan toiletries)
This is the SAF event of the year and is always loads of fun – so hope to see you there!
