On Sat 30th Oct, 2010, members of S.A.F held a funeral march with graphic images of factory farm conditions and gave out many leaflets to members of the public on a busy day in Sheffield city centre. The aim was to raise awareness of the realities of factory farming and it’s terrible effects on animals lives and on human health alike, due to the many diseases caused by raising animals for consumption in disgusting conditions. Twelve major diseases that start in factory farm settings that may go on to harm and even kill people include salmonellosis, campylobacter infection, BSE, bird flu and swine flu. Swine flu has killed more than 18,000 people around the world, while in the UK alone, it is estimated that salmonella and campylobacter are responsible for around 450,000 cases each year. The public were also exposed to the message that living a lifestyle free of animal products is the only solution to put an end to this needless suffering.
It was made possible by Animal Aid who provided the photo boards, leaflets and booklets which were given out to the public. Please see here for more information about this subject, which includes a link to download the ‘Is factory farming making you sick?’ booklet and info on how to order copies.
